Tokyo Three
Tokyo Death March - Day Three

As another break from actual "death" marching, day three should be a refreshing breeze to the experienced or amateur walker.  We shift over to the southwestern part of Tokyo and explore areas such as Ebisu, Shinjuku, and Shibuya.

Yebisu - Sapporo Beer Station

At your leisure, head down to the the Ebisu station on the JR Yamanote line.  If you're traveling there on the Hibiya line, you'll need to make sure you exit up into the JR station and follow the signs to yebisu.  If you're taking JR, make sure you stay high, and follow the skyway.  The first time I death marched my friend the wrong way for 10 blocks, turned around, got some breakfast, and finally marched alongside the skyway to the mall.

Once you reach the cross street after the skyway, head towards the left side of the first building and to the left of the central underground plaza.  Shortly you'll see the Sapporo Beer Station, and you'll need to head down a more narrow path to the entrance of the Sapporo Beer Museum.

After learning about the roots of Japanese beer for free, you'll be tempted, and I highly reccomend, to take a mid-morning beer break.  The sampler will provide 4 of Sapporo's beers.  How does it feel to get boozed up before lunchtime?  Continue on to the gift shop, and spend more money on some cool glasses to bring home.

Lunch in Shibuya

After heading back to Ebisu station, take the Yamanote line north to Shibuya station.  Alternatively, you can walk to Shibuya station, which keeps us on our "death march" theme. It's not a long walk, really.  When you reach the Shibuya area you shoud be famished enough to stop in for lunch at one of the many places to eat.  There is lots of shopping to do in this area, and if you come back at night, plenty of clubs to go to too.  So pick some cuisine and eat up.

I cannot tell you where to go in Shibuya because it's well, Shibuya.  Instead, browse through shops and walk around the whole area careful not to get lost.  As a frequent walker around Tokyo it was easy for me to gauge direction and space as I encircled Shibuya by foot.  When you're one continue on to the afternoon stroll.

Up in the Sky

You should still have enough time, if you have been death marching, to see Shinjuku in this day.   Hop onto the Yamanote line and head north to Shinjuku station.  Confused yet?  Don't worry.   Head towards the Central West exit and look at the skyscrapers around you.  We'll leave the shopping for later.  We'll need to head down to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, which you might have wondered about.  Hopefully the weather is good, and you'll get a fine view on the top floor.
